It's August and summer has finally arrived. July was a lovely September month, cool, dry (OK, too dry) and downright cold at night. Global warming, where are you when we need you? Customers would come in with sweatshirts on under jackets, hats and even a mitten or two. I did pass on to them some Norwegian wisdom - "There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing choices".
The latest news in Northern Door is that JJ's (our local Mexican restaurant) had an extensive fire in it's kitchen last week. Thankfully, there were no injuries. Loyal patrons have been flocking to JJ's new place in Jacksonport for their south of the border fix.
The Sister Bay new waterfront continues to attract more and more people. Even with the cooler weather, there are groups of folk, just relaxing or playing volleyball at the new net, or taking kayaking lessons with the quiet craft instructors. Its fun to see all the activity going on and it hasn't hurt the Cafe Custard stand any either! Along with our custard and soda, we also now serve hot dogs, chili, nachos, wrapped sandwiches and salads and, maybe best of all, slices of our Door County Cherry pie!
September is only a couple of weeks away, the quieter time of the season. Hope you can make a trip to Door County during this very special time of the year.
