The glorious color of fall is over, the majority of the tourists have gone home and the local snowbirds are starting to wend their way south. We had a few snowflakes lazily drifting last night, but nothing came of it - just enought to cause a little excitement I guess.
Thanksgiving weekend was the last fairly busy blip, with the Sister Bay "Capture the Spirit" program in full swing. The lighting of the town Christmas tree, the luminaria placed on the sidewalks all through town and Father Christmas telling stories in the Sister Bay Cafe all came together to lend an air of festivity to our village.
A new addition to Wikipedia has to do with lapskaus, the Norwegian farmers stew we serve at the Sister Bay Cafe. There is even a photo of the lapskaus booth that we set up during our Fall Festival.
Take a look! Another neat local item was featured in USA Today which featured Washington Islands Stavekirke (Stave church) in its list of "10 Great Places with International Flair" in its October 23 edition. "The church is an anchor for their cultural identity. It's a reminder of what was, while providing a sense of possibility of what can be carried forward." If you do travel to Door County, it is definitely worth your while to visit this stave church, an exact replica of the Hedland Stave church found in Norway.
The Cafe is closed now until December 26 and Solbjorgs Norwegian Gallery will be open on weekends a few hours per day to help with Christmas shopping. Solbjorg's also has a web site www.solbjorg.com.
In the meantime, we wish you God Jul (Merry Christmas) and Happy Holidays.
